Jae Davies (Snails)
As an aspiring fine artist, I am passionate about exploring a wide range of mediums, with a particular focus on oil painting, character design and sculpture. Throughout my creative journey, I have also experimented with photography, printmaking, pattern repeat, and various textiles techniques, constantly looking to expand my artistic horizons. My work reflects my unique personal expression, while also embracing experimentation. Once I have completed my studies, I aim to be an active part of the art community, sharing my work with like-minded individuals and continuing to grow as an artist.

Oil painting
This oil painting is the first of a series of 3 paintings I did for my college project titled Altered. The idea behind these pieces was to visually present the feeling of dissociation caused by personality disorders.

This oil painting is an emulation of John singer Sargents painting of Albert de Belleroche, this is the first oil painting I did and it made me fall in love with the medium.
This piece is a transcription of a piece by the contemporary artist Sammira Addo, I really enjoyed working with bright colours in this piece as that’s something I’d never done with oils previously.
This oil painting was also one of my first, it is a painting of my boyfriend playing guitar. I created this piece as a present for him and I was very happy with the result, particularly the textured background.
This is my most recent oil painting for my ‘Beautiful Decay’ project, it is of a character from ‘The Last Of Us’ which is a series of post apocalyptic games and also a tv show. I used a direct promotional image reference for this piece.
Project development
This is a photoshoot I did to collect reference images for my ‘Altered’ oil paintings, we worked in the college photography studio and experimented with different coloured lights to see what would give the best result.
These are two artist researches I did for my ‘Altered’ project. I chose these artists because I really love their style and hope to be able to achieve similarly breathtaking works in the future.
This sketchbook page is an artist research on Caravaggio alongside some facial feature studies I did in oil paints. I chose Caravaggio to research because of his use of light and shadow, I attempted to emulate this in my own work.
This page of sketchbook development is a workshop that I did for the ‘Altered’ project. There is a flip book of asemic writing using ink and various tools, and also two pieces with asemic writing as backgrounds to add to the mood of the pieces.
This is another sketchbook workshop inspired by David Bailey Ross, I have a semi analysis of his works along with my own attempts at working in his style.

Sculpture
These are the initial digital sketches that lead to my sculpture of Paul.
This is my digital design for my Aphrodite statue that I made for my ‘Altered’ project 3D final piece.
This is the finished sculpture of Paul. My proportions aren’t perfect but I think I could improve with some more practice.
This is the finished Sculpture of Aphrodite, I absolutely love how the while glaze looks over the craft crank clay.
This is my design for my 3D ‘Beautiful Decay’ final piece.
This piece is a current work in progress for my project titled 'Beautiful Decay', its is a sculpture of a snail with a skull as its shell and mushrooms growing from it.

This character design is my DND (dungeons and dragons) character, they are a wood elf Druid and their name is Vandor, which means Forest in elvish. I love the rendering of this piece.
This piece is my very first design of an unnamed character. I focused a lot on lighting effects in this piece and I love how it turned out.
This is another DND character design I did for a Greek mythology themed campaign.
This is a commission piece i did of someone’s fursona, I’ve done quite a bit of furry art over the past few years but this is one of my favourites.
Pattern repeat
This is my first ever attempt at digital pattern repeat, I tried to blend the motifs as flawlessly as possible and make them look cohesive.
This image shows the pattern above repeated onto an A4 page. The repeat is almost invisible which makes it perfect to be printed onto wallpaper or fabric.
